Welcome to Spotlites EdFringe 2016

We are delighted to announce that Spotlites, Venue 278, has moved 10 paces up the road to the corner of Hanover Street into the beautiful building of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. We now have 5 theatres, a bar / cafe, a performers’ green room, dressing rooms and free WIFI so we will be able to look after you in right royal fashion!

We are proud to present our ninth programme of 65 productions for EdFringe 2016; with innovative, interactive and international theatre from over 16 different countries across 5 continents. Companies performing in our distinctive venue included major established players with 50 year histories through to emerging professionals and exciting new student ones.

We look forward to welcoming you to our professional venue with high technical and production standards alongside full disabled access, clean facilities and caring helpful staff. We also have a comfortable bar / cafe with top-quality food, coffee, beers and wines and 9 delicious flavours of ice cream and sorbets to sample!

We offer a balanced blend of exciting and established pieces and cutting edge, boundary re-defining new writing. There are 43 pieces of new writing or development, with or without words! Spotlites encourages new writing and is proud of its growing reputation as a venue where new writing can do well artistically and play to full houses! We are also proud of the various awards which our companies have received for new writing including The Stage Award for Acting Excellence, FringeReview Award for Outstanding Theatre, ThreeWeeks Editor's Award and the DEREK People's Choice Award.

We are most interested in the relationship between audience and performer and much of our programme explores and expands this, including our unique programme of interactive plays for children.

Our central easy to find venue, on the corner of Hanover and George Street and part of what The Scotsman calls the 'Cultural Corridor', is one of the leading venues at EdFringe with five beautiful theatres established at the heart of the Festival.

Why not spend a day (or two or three) watching some of our shows, wander along George Street or Rose Street (just around the corner), relax in Princes Street Gardens or sample some of the street theatre just across at The Mound! With many restaurants, bars and pubs literally next door and Waverly Station and St. Andrews bus station just 5 minutes away, we’re easy to get to, and with our accessible pricing policy tickets here cost less than you think!

We look forward to welcoming you soon!
